Who We Are

In addition to a number of international consultants, Pakistani and Afghan officials and educators, and staff of NGO and assistance agencies, the following took the lead in developing the materials included in this website:

  • Dr. Mona Habib was the lead curriculum/ instructional materials specialist on Capture9the Pakistan and Afghan projects.
  • Dr. Andrea Rugh conducted preliminary qualitative teacher practices studies, was part of the design team, and supervised the needs assessment and evaluation studies for instructional material development in Pakistan. She assessed the potential and laid out the options for the Afghan project.
  • Ms. Ellen Van Kalmthout assisted in the preparation of the Pakistan instructional materials, and was the Chief Officer for Afghan Education at UNICEF overseeing the Afghan Project.

However, without funding and support provided by the organizations below these projects would not have been possible:

  • UNICEF provided funds and overall coordination for the Afghanistan project. UNICEF believes that “education is a fundamental human right: Every girl and boy in every country is entitled to it. Quality education is critical to development both of societies and of individuals, and it helps pave the way to a successful and productive future. When all children have access to a quality education rooted in human rights and gender equality, it creates a ripple effect of opportunity that influence generations to come.”
  • USAID funded the Egypt and Pakistan projects. “U.S. foreign assistance has always had the twofold purpose of furthering America’s interests while improving lives in the developing world. USAID carries out U.S. foreign policy by promoting broad-scale human progress at the same time it expands stable, free socieCapture8ties, creates markets and trade partners for the United States, and fosters good will abroad.”
  • Save the Children supported the Afghanistan Project. The organization is  “a leading independent organization creating lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Save the Children’s mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.  They have a broad domestic and global footprint, helping improve the lives of millions of children in the United States and around the world.”
